Animated Mini Maths Lessons Using xtranormal.com

We’ve just run a school-wide competition for the best animated mini maths lessons.

Pairs of pupils composed short animations (using www.xtranormal.com*) on a maths objective of their choice.

The animation had to meet the following criteria:

  • It had explain a particular learning objective from the year so far
  • It had to last no more than 3 minutes
  • It had to include a worked example

Winners were chosen on the basis of:

  • Demonstration of a secure understanding of the maths
  • Technical language was used correctly
  • The animation was memorable/catchy/engaging

Here is a collection of the best animations.

  1. This is excellent, I have had some of my pupils create videos and songs with learning objectives and worked examples but creating an animation would appeal to a lot more of the class. Quick question – I have just logged on to xtranormal.com, have you registered as an educator hence paying $10 a month? Thanks Dave

    1. Hi Dave! So nice to hear from you. I’m a fan of yours.
Anyway – yes I did pay for it but I ran it as a school project for year 7, 8 and 9. All teachers used it intensively on this project for one month and then I cancelled the subscription. I’ll do it again for sure. It was worth it from the point of view of being able to set a task and for them to be able to publish their work.

There are other animation websites but you do pay for the best ones. Take a look here: http://mashable.com/2010/10/27/create-animations-online/
