{"id":628,"date":"2012-10-22T20:21:41","date_gmt":"2012-10-22T20:21:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mrreddy.com\/blog\/?p=628"},"modified":"2024-10-12T14:24:59","modified_gmt":"2024-10-12T14:24:59","slug":"chromebook-update-this-thing-needs-a-name","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mrreddy.com\/blog\/2012\/10\/chromebook-update-this-thing-needs-a-name\/","title":{"rendered":"Chromebook Update: This-thing-needs-a-name"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mrreddy.com\/blog\/2012\/10\/chromebooks-are-not-just-for-christmas\/\" title=\"Chromebooks are not just for Christmas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">With a one-to-one computer initiative<\/a>, a blended learning plan in the oven* and a team of people involved from KSA, ARK and Google, the scale of things has gone from one-man-and-a-class to this-thing-needs-a-name level.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m a big fan of word association games \u2013 probably too many Saturday mornings watching <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=EUfv-tAfXn4\" title=\"Mallet's Mallet YouTube video\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mallet\u2019s Mallet<\/a> or too many Saturday afternoons code-naming my every move as an Operation \u2013 so when it comes to naming things I go for something cryptic by playing around with synonyms, acronyms and Latin derivations.<\/p>\n<p>On the back of an envelope I jotted down some possible nicknames for our Chromebook initiative&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Operation Blended Learning \u2013 too obvious<\/li>\n<li>Inventum Intertextatum \u2013 \u201cInterwoven Discovery\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>B<\/strong>.ursting with <strong>L<\/strong>.earning <strong>EN<\/strong>.gineered <strong>D<\/strong>.evices \u2013 trying too hard<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><figure style=\"width: 220px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chem4kids.com\/files\/elements\/art\/024_symbol.gif\" title=\"Chromium\" width=\"220\" height=\"113\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chromium&#8217;s atomic number is 24<\/figcaption><\/figure>In the end, I found inspiration in chemistry. Chromebook\u2026chrome\u2026chromium. Chromium is an element in the periodic table and its atomic number is 24. Since 24 is also the number of hours in a day, I thought it gave the sense that our Chromebooks and blended learning pilot would lead to learning around the clock.<\/p>\n<p>So we\u2019ve called it Project 24. <\/p>\n<p><strong>What actually is Project 24?<\/strong><br \/>\nProject 24 is a deep trial of blended learning.
